I've just been searching through my photo archives for some work I photographed ages ago and came across this.

This is my Sonny sat in a swing four and a half years ago. We never saw his top lip until he was around two, always had a really big bottom lip but no top!
He never complained, always happy to go anywhere, do anything, deep in thought ... with his bottom lip out.
I've just cried laughing at this little clip, my kids make me soooo incredibly happy...... there's a few tears there for time flying by so quickly, I watch this and I feel a little robbed.
OK soppy moment over, just wanted to share because it made me so happy to find it :)
(Sorry for sounding like a duck or an old drain when laughing!!)

Happy Monday...

Ahhh weekends just fly by so quick before we're back to happy Monday!

We had an ace time on our be-lated wedding anniversary child free break!
Manchester's a great city,
we did a bit of shopping...

called into Octopus...

 and Habitat,

and we didn't get too trunk at  Wagamama or Hard rock cafe. ( Where we sat near a picture of my music husband Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys....perfect!)

And after 'Totally' ruining Sonny's life, he wasn't too cross with us....
what do you think?....

Eeeee, nothing a tube of smarties can't cure!!
Thanks to Mum & Dad for looking after Lil, Sonny & Sky and thanks Chris for a fab weekend!
Hope you had a great one too!

It's only blooomin Friday!...

It's been a busy 'ole week!

I'm teaching another portrait class this afternoon, then that's me done work wise for the week!
Then it's glad rags on and out on a 'Mums' night out!,  then tomorrow after football and swimming (not me, Sonny & Sky!)  Chris and I are escaping to Manchester! for a whole weekend to ourselves!!

Sonny's not too pleased about this, he says it's 'Totally' not fair and that we're 'Totally' not thinking about him! and that we're 'ruining his life!!'
So there's a 'Totally' total ban on watching any American teen programme's on Nickelodeon now!

Sonny sleeps with me and Chris every night, he starts in his own bed and then appears as if my magic in between us both by morning snuggled up with a big sleepy smile on his face! and it's been like this since we moved him from cot to bed!!.... this weekend's going to be different!

All have a wonderful weekend, and try not to totally ruin anybodies life... like we are!!
Enjoy the lovely tune by Lenka in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, 'Jump in the Pool'
Have good one!

my creative space...

...year two's class room teaching a self portrait class,
and these are some of the fab results...

All the children had to bring in something to put on for their portraits and had little mirrors to look in to study their faces.

It was really really lovely to do something where the process of creating the art was just as, if not more important than the finished results.... although as you can see, for 6 & 7 year old's we got some cracking results!!

I don't know if I could be a teacher on a full time basis... very tiring!
...but very rewarding!

Lil Sonny Sky's book of the week... Okido

You have probably come across Okido before, a wonderful kids magazine about art and science. We discovered it this summer and the kids LOVE IT!!

Okido is the brainchild of designer and scientist Sophie Dauvois  and illustrator Rachel Ortas who is the creative director. The whole magazine is beautifully illustrated by contemporary artists some of whom are here.

this months issue is about body noises, rumbley tummies with Messy Monster...

how we sing and speak ( the kids loved holding the page up to the light to see the vocal chords!)...

Hiccups, heart beats, coughs....

and of course the odd fart! ( which amuses the kids no end!!)
Check out Okido's site, blog & shop for more info, and at £3.50 a bargain I think!

admiring the view...

I'm sooo lucky to live in a place where the views are so stunning, especially with the changing of the seasons. I always wonder if the kids appreciate their surrounding or whether they just take it for granted because they know no different, but I think they do. I caught Skyla just perched on a post looking out at the view... oooooo penny for them.

snap 'appy

Sky picked up my camera and started snapping around the house, I love how everything is at a three and a half foot level! I love the things she chose to snap, through the eyes of a child!
Hope you're having a great start to your week!

Fab Friday

I love Nina Simone, she can do no wrong, and See line Woman is my favourite track.
This is a great re-mixed version by masters at work,
So shake your booty to this and have a wonderful weekend!

a little peak....

screen printing yesterday, planning a few Christmas cards... but I think it's way too earlier to chatting about Christmas so will show you in more detail later!

My creative space...

I've been asked to teach a self portrait class up at Lil, Sonny & Sky's school.
I've never actually done a self portrait (don't like the idea of studying my face too much... although I could use artistic licence and rub out a few laughter lines!)
So I've been prepping for the class.

I've drawn portrait's of Lil & Sky but none of Sonny.
So, yesterday afternoon after being inspired by a friends husband who'd drawn a gorgeous portrait of his daughter Cecilia, I started this portrait of Sonny from a black and white photo I have.
I forgot how addictive it is, I didn't want to stop once I'd started!

I build up the colour and shade using cross hatching and use Berol Karisma/Prisma color pencils which have an oily base to them rather than a chalky one, so are easy to blend.

I like the texture that cross hatching gives an image.

and this is the finished portrait, finished at half ten last night in between, putting a wash on making the tea, bathing and bedtime routine!
I'm going to call this portrait 'Penny for them'

It's very different from the screen printed style of 'Piggy back' which is based on me and Sonny.
( I have to piggy back Son up the apples and pears to bed every night!)

The next portrait I draw of Sonny is going to be more cheeky and capture some of that Sonny mischievousness and energy!

High as a kite

This weekend we did more kite flying, Lil Sonny & Sky just love it and the weather on Sunday was so perfect, windy and Sunny!

I thought about doing a kite flying screen print, and started looking on Etsy to see if anyone else has illustrated kite flying, especially when I'd been looking at beautiful Chinese kites of giant dragons, gold fish and birds. In my research I came across this gorgeous print...

This gorgeous illustration is by Felicita Sala who lives and works in Rome

See more of Felicita's work at Babouche Rouge shop and blog.
What a wonderful Tuesday discovery!
